In the year ending March 2021, 2,044 unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) arrived in the UK seeking asylum, and many of them will be looked after in foster care. Afghanistan is one of the main countries where these children come from. With the return of the Taliban to power in August 2021, and the decision from the UK government to resettle up to 20,000 Afghan refugees over the next few years, we can foresee even more UASC from Afghanistan coming to the UK and needing the help of foster carers.

If you are interested in fostering a UASC from Afghanistan or about to welcome one into your home, it will be helpful for you to know about their culture, the challenges they may have experienced, the ones they might face once in the UK, and how to support them through the asylum-seeking process.

In this course, you will learn:
- General information about Afghanistan.
- Common mental health issues in asylum-seeking children.
- How to be aware of and deal with prejudices.
- How to apply for asylum in the UK and how to support UASC through the process.
