Intro to LGBTQ+ Identities and Issues (LGBTQ1notopen)

Description
[This course will take you approximately 1hour 30minutes to complete.]

The authors of this course are members of the LGBTQ+ community. This course is aimed at carers who feel they need to broaden their knowledge around this topic.

LGBTQ+ young people can be particularly vulnerable growing up, because our society has been built over centuries on heterosexual norms and gender stereotypes. Therefore, as we have been shaped by this environment, we might sometimes do or say things unconsciously that are not necessarily inclusive to all. The most important thing is to be open to learning. Taking this course is a great way to start building more understanding and acceptance for everyone.

This course is structured in two parts. This first part is an introduction to LGBTQ+ identities, history, and challenges. The second part, Raising an LGBTQ+ foster child, is tailored for foster carers raising LGBTQ+ children, and can be taken on completion of the introductory course.

In this course, you will:
- Learn what LGBTQ+ is in the context of sex, gender and sexuality.
- Understand the history and struggles of LGBTQ+ people.
- Understand what it is like to grow up LGBTQ+.
